In accordance with federal and state regulations, the Malverne School District provides appropriate special education services to students with educational disabilities. Any parents who suspect that their child may have an educational disability may make a written referral to their school’s principal or to Mrs. Meredyth Martini, Director of Special Education, Malverne Public Schools, 75 Ocean Avenue, Malverne, NY 11565.

 

IDEA

The law concerning special education is known as the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). According to federal and state regulations, the Malverne School District provides appropriate special education services to students (including preschoolers) identified with educational disabilities. Parents who suspect their child (school age or preschool age) may have an educational disability may refer their child for an evaluation by submitting a signed written referral to their school’s principal or to Mrs. Meredyth Martini, Director of Special Education, 75 Ocean Avenue, Malverne, NY 11565.

 

Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act

According to Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Malverne School District does not discriminate against students with disabilities who require accommodations to access the educational environment. The District provides appropriate accommodations for students who have a mental or physical impairment that substantially limits a major life function or activity. Parents who suspect their child may be eligible for Section 504 accommodations may submit a signed written referral to their building principal or Mrs. Martini, District 504 Coordinator.

 

Central Registration

Before referring a student who is not currently enrolled in Malverne School District the parent/legal guardian must contact the Central Registration Office at 887-6480 or email halvarado@malverneschools.org or DRizzi@malverneschools.org to arrange an appointment to register their child. Forms and additional information are available on the district website under Registration.

 

Early Intervention

Parents with concerns about their children under age 3 should contact Early Intervention (EI) at the Nassau County Department of Health at (516) 227-8661 for information about the Early Intervention referral process and services.
